Your making ice cubes for your ice cold water in the middle of the summer. You pour the water and put in the freezer. It feels like you have to wait forever. The water isn't frozen yet but let's see whats going on in the freezer. The water is still water but the particles are close together but not tight together. A hour later the water is frozen and now a solid. Solid particles are packed together tightly and can only vibrate. You turn on your faucet and run the water for a while then grab a glass and put it over the faucet. Then you crack the ice cube tray and grab three ice cubes. One falls out and startes to melt, but your to distracted by the water to notice it. It quickly melts and you walk away not noticing it. A few hours later it starts to evaporate, the particles of the gas are moving around freely and are not packed together.
