Three things at a fireplace.

Picture
Your enjoying your fireplace and you start to think of your last science lesson about radiation, conduction, and convection. You feel the warmth of the fire and think of radiation. Then you start to remember that radiation traveles through electromagnetic waves, and radiation gives off heat. The electromagnetic energy comes from the chemical energy in the wood and is tranformed into electromagnetic energy, you try not to forget that. You have a fancy fireplace with stone built around it and metal tools around it. There's more then radiation you think there's also two more things you learned like conduction. You look at the metal tools ans stone "Oh yeah," you say aloud. You just remebered that the fast moving particles from the fire transfer heat as they collide with the slow moving particles in the stone and then the stone particles collide with the metal tools and thats conduction. You start to remember the hardest one convection. Convection is when the air around the fire is heated and becomes less dence than the cool air nearby. Then the warm air rises up into the chimney and cool air takes its place.  Then you feel refreshed and realize your family was there the whole time.
